“From playing as a child with clay in the creek to building a ‘muddie’ studio in Toodyay my passion for the processes and materials of art-making has never diminished. Oils, ceramics, all drawing mediums especially Charcoals and ink, watercolours, collage and mixed media, artist books, vintage cases and cloth, hangings, embroideries, constructions, wool rugs, wire, bronze, tin...etc. Live drawing- especially performers, textures, movement, joy, dancing etc, all these things compel me in various and numerous ways to create my art.

Art mediums: Painting, all kinds, Sculpture (includes ceramics, wire, recycled objects, bronzes) Drawing, charcoals and ink,  Stitched vintage textiles (boro, wabi-sabi etc)

Art is a life-long passion. If there is a common thread that runs throughout my life, it is Making Art and immersing myself in Creative activities.

I remember as a small child, my grandmothers, my mother and sometimes other relatives who visited, would create together. There was always creativity and music in the house, textures and beautiful colours. The Elders in the family drew, knitted, created garments and played music... and cards! Of course, there was always food, gloriously scented food and people coming and going. There were beautiful textured and colourful materials, Art Deco and Silver tea sets and pottery that I have drawn many times as I was fortunate enough to inherit them. I have no doubt that my love of colour and texture, the landscape and people comes from my Greek-Egyptian Heritage. What a contrast to find myself in the Australian hills and fall in love, with fresh eyes, on a different landscape and people.

As a migrant child who felt different from the world, Art enabled me to enter into a world that accepted, welcomed and encouraged my difference. At Art school, I leaped into a pool of creativity and found my place of belonging.

I strongly identified with the artist Archetype - not in any amazing glorified way, but in a very simple, earthy way, a way that expressed things that only marks and colours could. There was an urgency to put something of myself and my world on the page, to show that the world around me had life and colour – even imagery that was subdued and dark had beauty and strength.

Being an Art Therapist as well as an Artist has only served to deepen my passion for the Arts in their many and varied forms.

Art-making is a healing and a wonderfully supportive companion during difficult transitions in my life, such as arriving to a new country, fitting in to another culture and during various losses - even during the pregnancies and births of children. Even now, as I enter the Life Stage of being an ‘Elder’, there are periods of ‘leaving & arriving’ in many forms. Art-making plays its role as a Healer, a Leveller and a Muse.
